Abu Dhabi Airport: history and facts

1. Abu Dhabi International Airport began operations in 1982 in the capital of the United Arab Emirates.

2. On November 1, 2023, a new Terminal A was opened, which became a hub for Etihad, Air Arabia Abu Dhabi and Wizz Air Abu Dhabi airlines.

3. Before the official opening of the new terminal, the filming of "Mission Impossible - Payback for Death" took place there.

4. On September 23, 1983, a Gulf Air flight crashed at Abu Dhabi Airport. All passengers and crew members were killed.

5. On February 9, 2024, the airport was named Zayed International Airport in honor of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the founder of the UAE.
